careful because you re playing with fire. they warned that if you wait until the last minute to raise the debt ceiling, you risk an accidental default, which would be catastrophic for the economy. they acknowledged that we re in divided times right now politically but that doesn t mean we should default on our debt. what would a default mean for the economy, moody s analytics put out a report, and they said that if there was a default and a prolonged impasse over resoe resolving it there could be 6 million jobs that would disappear. unemployment rates would jump to 9%. payments would be delayed to social security recipients, federal workers, $15 trillion in household wealth would vanish, so bad. all of this explains why everyone expects congress to eventually do the right thing. no one wants to be held responsible for this, but we should point out that the longer they wait, the closer they get to the edge of the cliff, the greater the chance they accidentally go over it. we n
