Dec 17, 2020 Betty Slovak was honored with a surprise party on her 103rd birthday on Tuesday at Sienna Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, 250 Cadiz Road, Wintersville. The former Betty Thomas was born Dec. 15, 1917, in Martins Ferry and had five brothers, all of whom are deceased. She was married to Marty Slovak for 35 years. They have one daughter Beverly Kuryn of Amsterdam, and two grandchildren, Janie and Marybeth. She was a bartender at Parma Heights for 40 years and a lifelong member at VFW and the Legion. Slovak enjoys bingo, coloring, dominos, cards and spending time with her best friends, Nadine and Flo. When asked how she felt about turning 103, she said she is ready to make the best of the situation and continue living life to the fullest. ....
