construction will soon begin - on permanent flood protection in cedar rapids. rapids.cbs 2 news reporter stephanie johnson johnsonis live in cedar rapids this morning - to explain where the city plans to start the project. good morning ? the city will soon build a levee that will start here at the african museum and stretch all the way to tenth avenue where the alliant sub station is located. the city broke ground on the 14-million dollar project on tuesday. the levee will be thirteen to seventeen feet high.the city wants to build it high enough to protect from flood levels seen in 2008.the project will also include a four-acre catch basin and new pumping stations -os dollars.for now, mayor ron corbett says the sinclair levee will cover just the east side of the river, near newbo. we re starting in the lowest lying area first so this is the lowest area, it s the first place to get flooded so the work that is done today will actually have impact tomorrow and then we ll go to
port-au-prince, haiti. on cbs this morning, vladimir is live from port-au-prince where a million dozes of cholera vaccine are rushed to the island in hopes of stopping spread of the deadly disease. hurricane nicole reformed in the atlantic. nicole s winds are hitting 90 miles an hour. the storm is turning toward the warned to prepare for a blow as early as today. in syria, pro-government forces ian russian war planes have resumed strikes on aleppo. 25 people were killed, including children. activists call it the heaviest bombing in days. aleppo, syria s largest city, has once again come under aerial attack. the pentagon hinted at off the coast of rebel-controlled territory in yemen earlier this week. the missiles were fired sunday toward the uss mason but fell harmlessly into the water. hoothi rebels deny any involvement in the incident. had pcp in his system. the officer who shot him betty jo shelby is charged with manslaughter. coming up on the morning news
