On February 7, 2019, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D–NY) and Senator Ed Markey (D–MA) released their plan for a Green New Deal in a non-binding resolution. The goal of the Green New Deal as outlined is to achieve global reductions in greenhouse gas emissions from human activity of 40 percent to 60 percent (from 2010 levels) by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050. In what the resolution calls a “10-year national mobilization,” it proposes monumental changes to America’s electricity, transportation, manufacturing, and agricultural sectors if enacted.

The Building Child Care for a Better Future Act was first introduced in late May, and is backed by Wyden and Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Since then, the bill has been read twice and referred to the Committee on Finance. It aims to allocate “mandatory funding to build child care availability over the long term and treat child care like the critical infrastructure that it is for families.”
