School board approves extended schedule, keeps holidays
School days at the Verona district will be extended by 12 minutes in the 2021-2022 school year.
The school board approved a motion that will add six minutes to the beginning of the school day, and six minutes to the end of the day. That means, beginning this fall, students will start school at 7:54 a.m. and end at 3:51 p.m.
Verona School Superintendent Tony Simmons said the change is necessary to ensure students and staff can continue to received the traditional Christmas and Thanksgiving vacations and the district can continue to meet the state-mandated 1,044 hours of instruction each year.
