‘Keep Nakamura’ GoFundMe Launched for Legal Challenge

STOCKTON The ouster of Benjamin Nakamura as principal of Amos Alonzo Stagg High School has generated an avalanche of emails and letters demanding that he be reinstated by the Stockton Unified School District board.
In preparation for a legal challenge to the SUSD board action, Nakamura says that he has secured a prominent civil rights attorney. A GoFundMe campaign (https://gofund.me/aad7b542) has been launched by supporters to help with legal expenses. The goal is $15,000.
The Stockton Unified School District’s Board met for their routinely scheduled meeting. What was not part of their usual routine was the discussion to layoff 104 staff members.
Resolution 20-50 was included in the agenda for the board’s meeting on March 9. With a vote of 5-2, the resolution passed resulting in 104 people potentially losing their jobs in the district for the 2021-22 school year. Layoff notices are scheduled to be sent by March 15.
“I don’t know how we came so far away from the direction that we’d [the board] given the superintendent,” said area seven board trustee Candelaria Vargas before the meeting.
