Crosswalk Enforcement Effort to Be Held Thursday

Crosswalk Enforcement Effort to Be Held Today By Rob Sussman Jun 23, 2021 | 3:32 PM GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) A crosswalk enforcement effort will be held across Brown County in the coming months. The first enforcement event is Thursday. Officers will be stationed at crosswalks in Allouez, Bellevue, Denmark, De Pere, and Green Bay to enforce crosswalk safety and yielding for crossing pedestrians. Local law enforcement has partnered with Wello, a community non-profit, and their “Yield to Your Neighbor” Campaign. “It’s not an excuse for officers to give out tickets,” said Mario Gonzales, Wello’s Communications and Marketing Manager. “It’s really to remind people of the law, which is when you see a pedestrian in the crosswalk, we yield to them.”

Wisconsin Police Department on Policy Changes

By Jorge Rodas Green Bay PUBLISHED 9:25 AM ET Apr. 22, 2021 PUBLISHED 9:25 AM EDT Apr. 22, 2021 SHARE GREEN BAY, Wis. – Calls for police reform haven’t been lost on various police departments across Wisconsin working to change their policies and procedures from lessens learned throughout the George Floyd saga. Green Bay Police Commander Kevin Warych says his department has certainly made changes in the last year to update how it serves the city. “If we’ve learned [anything] in the last couple years, transparency is crucial to earning communities’ trust, and we have to ensure that we do that in every contact, everything we do, people want and we want that mutual respect,” Warych says.

Use-of-Force Policy Popular With Police

Company wrote policy used by Brooklyn Center and dozens of Wisconsin law enforcement agencies. By Henry Redman - Apr 20th, 2021 04:40 pm //end headline wrapper ?>Police. Photo by Highway Patrol Images / (CC BY) At dozens of Wisconsin law enforcement agencies, portions of use-of-force policies are exactly the same as the use-of-force policy for the Brooklyn Center, Minn. Police Department  where 20-year-old Daunte Wright was killed by a police officer in a traffic stop earlier this month. The policies are worded exactly the same because they were all written by Lexipol, a company that allows law enforcement agencies and other units of local government to outsource their policy writing in the name of efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The company says it has built policies for thousands of law enforcement agencies and local governments across the country and it is deeply ingrained in Wisconsin law enforcement.
