Calico Group: Burnley organisation creates paid placements | Lancaster And Morecambe Citizen

A HOUSING group has unveiled 30 new paid work placement opportunities for young people. The placements were created by the Burnley-based Calico Group, which operates across the county, as part of the government s Kickstart programme which is designed to give employment opportunities to 16-24 year olds who are currently claiming universal credit. The group have created new roles for the programme at their residential care home Barley View, within their homelessness and housing service Gateway and within their construction company Ring Stones. Calico head of social enterprise Sam Howarth said: It’s important to us a company to make a real difference to people’s lives, and we feel we are doing that by creating these positions.

Rochdale News | News Headlines | Santa Express given a warm welcome in Whitworth

Santa Claus Santa Claus was given a warm welcome in Whitworth earlier this month, as he visited the town with a custom-built light-up sleigh. As an alternative to the annual Christmas light switch on, Whitworth Tourism and Leisure Committee volunteers invited Santa to ride around in their custom-built light up sleigh and greet all the children (and adults). They covered 16 miles over two nights on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 December, waving to the children as they drove up and down all the main routes in Whitworth and Shawforth. Hundreds of families stood out in the cold on their doorsteps or the end of the street to watch Santa pass by.
