An unusual rescue effort for this time of year saved four people who became stuck on a sandbar this morning in southwest cedar rapids. A road is also back open that fire and police had to block off for the water rescue. Police found four people had gotten their boat style atv stuck in Prairie Creek near the intersection of j street and Hawkeye Downs road southwest. The people were able to get off the boat and to safety on a sand bar. The Fire Department then used inflatable boats to bring them to shore. Most importantly they were able to rescue themselves to the point where they were in a semi safe area. Deploying a response to a river like this or creek is difficult because theres no boat ramps. Were not exactly sure where its at. So in a situation like that, people that are involved in these incidents have to protect get there. No one was injured. The atv the people were on will stay in Prairie Creek until the water goes down. Prairie creek isnt the only eastern iowa waterway to see
