Underscored by new reporting from nbc news on how he single handedly blocked a bipartisan piece of legislation that would have tightened the rules around foreign influence and lobbying in washington. But perhaps more pressingly for the democrats is what Senator Menendez will do to the party as a whole in next years election. The democrats have been working for years to paint republicans as the ones tolerant of corruption, the ones who have locked the other way at wrong doing, the ones who are okay with their standard bearer being someone under indictment. The comparison of course is not apples to apples, but here is how Democratic Rep Dean Phillips of minnesota put it, saying, quote, if we aspire to be a party recognized for its Prioritization Of Ethics and the restoration of faith in government, we must collectively condemn and seek the resignation or removal of anyone whose Behavior Results in a federal indictment period. Voting for the republican candidate for senate in alabama. he sorry. i m hearing myself back in the peer piece here. he he s a very popular senator here in alabama. he won last year, i think, by about 60 points, and so what he says will carry a lot of weight, particularly with the business-minded republicans here in the birmingham area and in north alabama. i think senator shelby has gone above and beyond trying to recruit business to the state and i think people will listen to him when he says, in an election of roy moore would prohibit our ability to bring in auto manufacturing jobs or military contracts or things like that. i want to ask you about this robocall that president obama recorded. there s been back and forth. last i saw in reporting, they weren t sure the jones campaign would use it. is it a positive or negative in that net for president obama to put his finger on the scale in this race? probably a wash.
Trailing. paul ryan rose in here this afternoon for a town hall in lye ma. then tomorrow he and romney are going to appear together. on the third day romney is going to fly solo in cleveland, toledo, that area. they are behind here. the message, as is the case everywhere across the country is jobs. more specifically in ohio, manufacturing jobs. more specific than that, auto manufacturing jobs. one in eight jobs are connected to the industry. and the challenge for this campaign is to assure the voters that president romney would be a supporter of the industry and the workers. the president s campaign is reminding voters that general motors is still alive because of the bailout. now paul ryan today is expecting to see a little bit more friend ler faces than he saw in new orleans. a lot of folks walked out in droves when he got up to speak
