The famous and the flops: best and worst NFL 1st-round picks

The famous and the flops: best and worst NFL 1st-round picks By The Associated PressApril 24, 2021 GMT AFC Best: T Jonathan Ogden, UCLA, 1996 Selected with the team’s first-ever pick after the move from Cleveland, Ogden held down the left tackle spot through 2006, was selected to 11 Pro Bowls and was a star on 2000 Super Bowl champions. Worst: WR Travis Taylor, Florida, 2000 Taken 10th overall, Taylor battled injuries and never became the big-play wideout Ravens envisioned in five seasons in Baltimore. BUFFALO BILLS ADVERTISEMENT With some question whether Smith or Ray Childress was worthy of the No. 1 pick, the Bills went with Smith. He became the NFL’s sack leader and cornerstone of a defense on a team that won four straight AFC championships.

Beek's Bits: Falcons at pro days, mock madness, cap flap and … say Watt?

Official Falcons NFL Mock Draft Tracker: Updated In case you missed it, general manager Terry Fontenot and coach Arthur Smith were among a contingent people from the Falcons who were in attendance to see quarterback Trevor Lawrence put on a 52-throw passing exhibition at Clemson on Friday. We had a story (and pictures!) of Fontenot talking with Clemson coach Dabo Swinney. The Falcons currently own the No. 4 overall pick, which means they re in play for all of the top prospects, including the top quarterbacks. Most draft experts and NFL writers are projecting that as many as five quarterbacks could be selected in the top 12 picks. Those prospects include Lawrence, Zach Wilson of BYU, Justin Fields of Ohio State, Trey Lance of North Dakota State and Mac Jones of Alabama.

A look at how many picks the Falcons have in the 2021 NFL Draft Plus, a closer look at what the Falcons (and other teams) have done historically with those picks – some of the names might surprise you Feb 12, 2021 at 09:02 PM AP Photos The Atlanta Falcons lost their last five games of the 2020 season and finished with a 4-12 mark. As a consolation prize, Atlanta ended up with the No. 4 overall pick in April s NFL Draft. Most Falcons fans appear to be excited about the idea of having a top-five pick heading into April s draft, and for good reason. When teams are picking that high in the order, they have a chance to snag an elite player – a true difference-maker.
