MUMBAI: An Andheri (East) resident became the latest victim of online wine fraud and lost Rs68,000 after he placed an order for Beer and Rum after collecting information about Ujwal Wines in JB Nagar on April 10.
The 61-year-old complainant, who retired himself for a Cargo Business, was duped after he placed the order for home delivery and the scamster made him scan the QR Code instead of accepting cash on delivery that the Mumbai police has repeatedly alerted people to safeguard from getting duped.
The fraud occurred at around 12.30pm when the senior citizen came across the wine shop contact details after searching on the internet. We have sought details from the bank to track the money trials and the scamster location who have posted his number under the Wine Shop address online. Many such frauds have occurred in the past and we have received complaints from wine shops in Andheri (East), said an Andheri police officer.
