In the meantime, we are still vulnerable to the virus,” said Eve Komosa, PA-C, physician assistant at Aspirus Health. “And because no vaccine is 100 percent effective, you may still be at risk too. Jan 15, 2021 BATES TOWNSHIP An Iron County Road Commission employee died Wednesday after being struck and pinned between vehicles while working as a flagger on Bates-Amasa Road near Shady Lane in Iron County. An investigation determined a 57-year-old Newald, Wis., man driving a 2005 Ford Ranger pickup truck failed to stop in a marked work zone just after 2 p.m. Wednesday and hit the flagger, pinning him between the truck and the flagger’s road commission vehicle, according to a news release from the Michigan State Police, Iron Mountain Post. The flagger died at the site. The pickup truck driver was taken by ambulance to Aspirus Hospital in Iron River and later airlifted to Wausau, Wis., for further treatment, but his injuries are not considered life-threatening, the news release stated. ....
Jan 15, 2021 BATES TOWNSHIP An Iron County Road Commission employee was struck and killed Wednesday while he was working in a construction zone. Troopers from the Michigan State Police, Iron Mountain Post, responded to a two-vehicle personal injury crash on January 13, 2021, at approximately 2:14 p.m. on Bates-Amasa Road near Shady Lane, in Iron County’s Bates Township. The investigation determined that a 57-year-old male from Newald, Wis., operating a 2005 Ford Ranger pickup, failed to stop in a marked work zone, striking an Iron County Road Commission employee performing duties as a flagger. The road commission employee was pinned between the driver’s vehicle and the road commission vehicle next to the employee, and suffered fatal injuries. ....
