MANCHESTER, Iowa (KWWL) - Brehme Drug in Manchester is the only pharmacy in Delaware County that is authorized to administer the COVID-19 vaccine. As eligibility has opened up to most Iowans, the pharmacy has been approved for an increase in its allocation.
The Delaware County Health Department currently receives 200 doses of the vaccine each week. Most of them going toward the department s Regional Family Health partners. The health department has worked on getting the doses out to specific groups. We do realize we have quite a demand here in Delaware County that has not been met, Brehme Drug Owner and Pharmacist Ashley Brehme said.

Vaccinations at Manchester pharmacy give a ‘dose of hope’

The one-shot Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine is in short supply as Iowa drug stores and health departments that get a shipment quickly use it up.
Pharmacist Ashley Brehme, owner of Brehme Drug in Manchester, offered a clinic last weekend at the town’s fire station, administering about a hundred doses of the coveted vaccine.
Brehme took a call from an elderly couple to schedule an appointment. “The woman actually cried and thanked me for getting her in because they’ve been waiting for so long and we were finally able to get them through the waiting list,” Brehme says. “She just kept thanking me and crying. There’s so much emotion tied around it. It’s awesome to be a part of and really feel like with each shot we’re giving, we’re giving a dose of hope.”
A Manchester pharmacy was among the first in the nation to administer the new one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine last week.
Brehme Drug offered the newest COVID-19 vaccine to about 100 residents during a special clinic at the Manchester Fire Station on Saturday. Owner and pharmacist Ashley Brehme says it’s a good feeling to get the shot in people’s arms so quickly.
In addition to those 100 shots, Brehme Drug has been able to vaccinate an additional 500 people with the Moderna vaccine over the past few months, with the priority going to their most vulnerable patients. Brehme says they’ve been able to vaccinate most of their patients ages 65 and older, so last Friday, they opened up a waiting list to the general public.
