“It’s a crazy, bitterly cold time for us in Texas,” Betsy Ballard, the director of communications for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, said by email as her community attempted to emerge from a weekend cold snap that has besieged the southwest. She said most Texans were “ill-prepared to deal with substantial icing and power loss.. [I]t’s heartbreaking for the thousands of people who lack sufficient resources to remain warm and fed.”

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Churches in the Baton Rouge area are offering several options for people to receive the ritual of ashes Wednesday, Feb. 17 as the area experiences its third day of freezing temperatures, and preventing the spread of the coronavirus remains a top priority.

Holy Spirit Parish Ash Wednesday Services will be held at St. Agnes Church, 3 W. Walnut St., Lock Haven on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 8:30 a.m. Ashes will not be distributed at Mass and other services for the day have been cancelled.

Bellefonte fish fries will be Feb. 19, 26 and March 5, 12, 19 and March 26 from 4-7p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School, 116 E. Bishop St., Bellefonte, Pa. 16823. Because of the virus, the meals will all be served take out only, first-come-first-served and the menu must be abbreviated. The menu will be as follows: baked fish, fried fish or shrimp; each served with macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, and a cookie. The cost will be $9 per meal. You can pick up the meals by entering the school through the side door and exiting through the main door. Church volunteers look forward to bringing some normality to everyone and thank everyone for their support.
