After plane forced down, U.S. tells airlines to avoid Belarus

WASHINGTON D.C.: The United States has called for air carriers to maintain extreme caution while flying over Belarus following the diverting of a Ryanair flight and Belarus arrest of a journalist onboard the plane.
The May 28 notice excludes cargo carriers, including global courier delivery services Fedex and UPS, from operating over Belarus.
United Airlines operates flights in proximity to Belarus, although no United States passenger airlines usually overflies its airspace.
A spokesperson for United Airlines said the carrier will be complying with the instruction.
There has been no issuance of an advisory formally by the Federal Aviation Administration, akin to what several countries have done to avoid transiting over Belarus.
