Royal Man Charged Following Dickinson County Pursuit

Spirit Lake, IA (KICD) A Royal man has been charged following a high-speed pursuit in Dickinson County early Friday morning.
The pursuit began shortly after midnight when an officer with the Spirit Lake Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle near the Dickinson County Courthouse. While the officer was getting out of his vehicle the suspect reportedly took off driving through the Hy-Vee parking lot and turning north onto Peoria Avenue reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph.
The pursuit continued until the driver, 21-year-old Turner Reece Keith Mortensen, failed to negotiate a curve south of Orleans causing the vehicle to enter the ditch. Mortensen was taken into custody without further incident and charged with eluding, operating while intoxicated and numerous traffic offenses before being booked into the Dickinson County Jail.
