fox news columnist served in bush bhows during hurricane katrina. welcome karl, nice to see you. so what do voters expect from governors and presidents particularly governors here when you have a natural disaster like this? well they expect governor to be in charge and to have mobilized both local governments, state government, and private institutions to mediate the aftermath and to be able to help peel get back on their feet. this is a test if you will ofen frontline leadership of a governor and also in some instances the mayor of big cities have a big role to place but governor is lead. federal government basically writes checks unless the local government and state government utterly collapse as they did in katrina and the federal government has to nationalize the event in essence. but florida has a strong tradition of governors rising up and meeting challenges they have one of the best management cities governor of florida needs to know how to deal with this because th
works for defense department. amazon is destroying the environment. so it is not even ones that are sitting around all day doing nothing even those employed are underemployed. sandy some will look at you saying this and me and they re going say you know what you re come on you re a cranky old guy who likes to say like their your grandparents well things were, you know, tougher and better when i was your age. i mean, what s your response to that? well, i mean, the response is simple. i m not talking about an entire generation. i m jus talking about underachievers yes this has been going on for generations i mean in the 60s it was, you know, those who, you know, tuned in and dropped out and the like. but it s easier today. one because we have all of these screens we have screens in our pockets and we re walking around you know doing anything except working and then secondly is that big stash of cash that s going to be transferred from baby boomers to the next generation.
when people say they make more money, when they say they make more money, you know, from an unemployment, the challenge is then that means employers need to pay them more to make it a competitive market. some people have said they have the bait-and-switch, someone will promise one salary and they show up and it s something different. any advice to people who are running into those kind of challenges? you know, i ve been hearing so many different stories here, and i do know for a fact that almost a quarter of all domestic workers are still unemployed, and many who are currently employed are underemployed. this idea that people are not looking for work is just a myth. people want to work, but they need to be able to find work that will allow them to sustain themselves and their families, to take care of the people they love. it s really quite simple. so i would say to people that they should know their worth. this is not a problem of
