Children safe and healthy throughout the day. Even before covid, we knew that americans lacked access to childcare. The pandemic has only exacerbated these concerns. Until now, republicans and democrats have consistently worked together to provide additional support for childcare. Prior to the pandemic, congress had doubled funding for the Childcare Block Grant and increased funding for Head Start and preschool develop programs. In the cares act, congress divided muchneeded support for Childcare Providers and essential workers in response to covid, providing an additional 3. 5 billion dollars in funding. Last december, the bipartisan Appropriations Bill provided an additional 10 billion for childcare. Last year, democrats included 40 billion in stabilization grants in a permanent increase in childcare entitlement funding. Let me do the math.
