Jamaica has shown marginal improvement in the area of corruption, according to its latest ranking by corruption watchdog, Transparency International (TI).
The country has registered a score of 44 out of 100 on the just released Corruption Perception Index (CPI). This ranks Jamaica 69
th of 180 countries that were assessed in 2020 and represents a marginal improvement for Jamaica which scored 43 out of 100 in 2019 while ranked at 74.
Based on TI’s ranking, a score of zero means a country is perceived to be very corrupt while 100 means a country is perceived to be very clean. The 2020 results show that Jamaica is perceived to be the fifth most corrupt state in the Caribbean behind Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominican Republic and Haiti. With a ranking of 28, Barbados is perceived to be the least corrupt Caribbean state.
