When i was, first, assigned to come to washington by abc news, in 1974, the nation was deeply divided in protests over the vietnam war. The economy was racked with inflation. And for the only time in american history, a u. S. President resigned in disgrace. It was, at that moment, that abc news gave me the great honor of assigning me to the white house to what came next. It was the administration of gerald ford. And with it, came, of course, the energy and the grace of betty ford. On the eve of mother s day, we are going to explore those memories with her daughter, susan ford bales.
