With the Easter Bunny’s busiest day of the year just one week away, it still didn’t stop the holiday hare from hopping on over to Belvidere the Sunday before Easter.
After several years of downsizing and dwindling demand for its current product, the Jeep Cherokee, Stellantis is idling the plant “indefinitely,” laying off the last 1,200 workers in Belvidere.
The Belvidere plant had been considered for transition to EV production for the next generation Charger and Challenger, sources said. Instead, Stellantis announced in June that the vehicles will be built in Windsor, Ontario.
