Weve looked at the long struggle for what historian Hasan Jeffries called freedom rights, right . Weve been looking at this quest for economic, social, and political selfdetermination, for educational access and equity. The title of the book is pageants, parlors, and pretty women race and beauty in the twentiethcentury south. One of the real kind of jumping off points for this aside from all these conversations i had with nonsoutherners about southern women were beautiful is the fact that white southern women have a track record of doing very well at the miss america pageant. We can document this. We can see they have won a d disproportionate amount of titles. They did especially well in the 1960s. I love a parade dont you .
