Global Dairy Trade auction dips slightly

Prices in the latest Global Dairy Trade auction have dipped for the second event in a row, with a 0.7 per cent drop across the board.
Whole Milk Powder - which has the biggest influence on Fonterra s farmgate milk price - rose 0.7 per cent to an average US$4,115/MT, while Skim Milk Powder - Fonterra s second biggest reference product - lifted 2.0 per cent to an average US $3,433/MT.
Butter Milk Powder posted the biggest increase - up 14.4 per cent to an average US$4,222/MT, but with very little product on offer.

As I reported last week, the Agriculture Department raised its estimate on 2021 milk production in its latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report issued April 9, based âprimarily on increased cow numbers.â Projected Class III and Class IV milk prices were also raised.
The 2020/21 U.S. corn outlook was for greater feed and residual use, increased corn used for ethanol production, larger exports, and lower ending stocks.Â
The feed and residual use projection was raised 50 million bushels to 5.7 billion, based on corn stocks reported as of March 1, which indicated disappearance during the December to February quarter rose about 6% relative to a year ago.Â

Prices in the latest Global Dairy Trade auction have softened slightly, with a 3.8 per cent drop across the board.
Leading the decline, Whole Milk Powder - which has the biggest influence on Fonterra s farmgate milk price - fell 6.2 per cent to an average US$4,083/MT.
Butter also fell 2.8 per cent to an average US$5,659/MT.
All other reference products were up, however, with Skim Milk Powder - Fonterra s second biggest reference product - up 0.7 per cent to an average US $3,350/MT.

Lactose posted the biggest lift - up 8.6 per cent to an average US$1,392/MT, followed up Anhydrous Milk Fat, which rose 3.7 per cent to an average US$6,155/MT.

Kiwi dairy farmers could be forgiven for thinking that the decimal point was in the wrong place, when viewing the latest Global Dairy Trade auction results this morning.
Prices across the board in last night s auction leapt an incredible 15.0 per cent to an average US$4,231/MT.
It s the eighth increase in a row, and the eleventh out the last twelve auctions.
But, unbelievably, the news got even better for farmers from there.

The largest gain sprung from the crucial Whole Milk Powder (WMP) index, which has the biggest impact on Fonterra s Farmgate milk price and shot up 21.0 per cent to an average US$4,364/MT - the highest price for WMP since May 2014.
