CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Rory McIlroy found his comfort zone at Quail Hollow and left with a trophy he badly needed.
McIlroy closed with a 3-under 68 and made it tough on himself at the end Sunday, driving into the hazard left of the 18th fairway and needing two putts from 45 feet for a one-shot victory in the Wells Fargo Championship.
What mattered was ending 18 months since his last victory in the HSBC Champions in Shanghai, along with finding a strong semblance of his game as he prepares to return to Kiawah Island for the PGA Championship. ....

The St. Paul Saints, in conjunction with the Twins, announced their first Class AAA roster on Saturday. It has 18 pitchers, four catchers, four infielders and four outfielders.
The Twins, who are considered to have one of the top 12 minor league systems by many publications, will showcase a lot of talent at CHS Field in St. Paul.
The Saints, who open the season Tuesday at Werner Park against the Omaha Storm Chasers, a Kansas City Royals affiliate, have the second- (outfielder Trevor Larnach), fourth- (catcher Ryan Jeffers), fifth- (pitcher Jhoan Duran), 12th- (outfielder Brent Rooker) and 25th-best (infielder Travis Blankenhorn) prospects in the Twins organization as ranked by Baseball America. ....

Amira Young breaks 46-year-old Gophers record in 200-meter run

The Gophers Amira Young, a junior from Chicago, won the 200-meter run in 23.21 seconds on Friday in the M City Classic Minnesota s lone home track and field meet this season. Her time broke the program record of 23.44 set by Jane Oas in 1975. Teammate Bethany Hasz won the 5,000 in 15:41.8, lowering her own program record in that event.
Other women s winners on the first day of the four-team meet against Illinois, Nebraska and Wisconsin were Abigail Schaaffe in the 400 hurdles (58.43) and Allison Gerads in the long jump (20 feet, 3 inches).
On the men s side, Noah Burton of the Gophers won the 400 hurdles (51.38), Owen Hoeft the 1,500 (3:44.20), Yahya Madar the high jump (6-4¼), Kaleb Siekmeier the discus (187-3), and Kostas Zaltos the hammer throw (228-3). ....
