WOODSFIELD Southwestern Energy recently donated $25,000 to the United Way of Guernsey, Noble and Monroe Counties to support local food banks in the area.
Amy Dobkin, communications manager for Southwestern, presented the check to local officials Monday during the Monroe County Board of Commissioners’ meeting. The funding will go to the United Way of Guernsey, Noble and Monroe Counties, which will distribute the funds to organizations in the area. The United Way is a nonprofit that helps to fight hunger and homelesseness, according to its website.
Commissioner Mick Schumacher said the funding will aid hunger initiatives and food pantries in the county. He said the local United Way is in the process of setting up a grant program where local food banks can apply for the funds. The money will then be distributed to the local initiatives.

Southwestern Energy recently presented a $15,000 donation to Feed My People for necessary renovations to reopen the kitchen used feed to the community for so many years. We have been feeding the needy in Guernsey County – for free – since 1982, and the community has always supported us,” said Bernie Schreiner, president of Feed My People, Inc. “But, this donation gives us the opportunity to make a big leap forward that will pay dividends for years to come.”
Jack Marlin, Guernsey County commissioner, said Feed My People meets vital community needs. “The Feed My People program is a very essential community-based organization in Guernsey County that feeds a lot of people in need in the city and the county. I am thankful we have it and have volunteers who support it, so that people can eat every day.”

WHEELING United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley has launched a food insecurities grant in partnership with Southwestern Energy.
The grant is open to organizations in Brooke, Ohio, Marshall and Wetzel counties that are providing food products and meals to local residents.
“Southwestern Energy is a strong community partner and aware that food insecurity is one of the biggest issues our community members are facing,” Jessica Rine, executive director of the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley, said. “This grant will fund programs addressing these concerns so that they have the funding to provide for more families.”
