CMS encouraging gig workers from Uber, Lyft and others to sign up for Affordable Care Act coverage

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is encouraging gig employers such as Uber, Lyft, DoorDash and Postmates to promote Affordable Care Act plans to employees. Lyft Pass for Healthcare allows patients to schedule rides at no cost

A newly-launched program from Lyft is helping patients and hospitals to avoid missed medical appointments.  Through Lyft Pass for Healthcare, eligible patients, health plan members and Medicaid and Medicare beneficiaries can use the Lyft app to request rides to their medical appointments without cost.  The program allows the sponsoring healthcare or social services organization to cover the cost of the rides. Sponsors are given control over the service by setting a total budget, a maximum cost per ride, the pickup and drop-off locations, and when the pass can be used. Sponsoring organizations covering the ride issue Lyft passes to their riders for use when they request a ride. Lyft then provides the organizations with reports on usage and spending.

Here's how much you're saving in military commissaries

Here’s how much you’re saving in military commissaries January 26 Socially-distanced, masked shoppers wait to pay for their groceries April 16, 2020, inside the commissary at Travis Air Force Base, Calif. (Tech. Sgt. James Hodgman/Air Force) After a couple of years of increases, commissary savings slipped in U.S. stores in 2020, according to results from the most recent commissary savings report. Savings in U.S. commissaries decreased by 1.2 points down to 21.1 percent in 2020 from the 22.3 percent savings calculated in 2019. Commissary officials compare prices in each geographic area to determine how much, on average, a commissary shopper could expect to save on grocery purchases compared with local commercial grocers in that area outside the gate.
