Sergeant Major James Winfred Snow, Jr., U.S. Army retired, passed away on December 23, 2020. Jay began his 29-year military service in 1969 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam as a member of the 101st Airborne Division as a paratrooper communication specialist. Later, he attended the Defense Language Institute where he studied Russian. During his career, he served at the Pentagon in the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In 1984, he moved to the White House where he worked on the Washington-Moscow Hotline. After various other assignments and his eventual promotion to Sergeant Major, he retired in 1998 after finishing his Army career at the National Security Agency.
