Naturopathic doctor Millie Hinkle, of Asheboro, North Carolina, founded Camel Milk USA in 2009. It initially focused on research into the product s medical benefits, while she championed the national legalization of camel-milk sales.
In 2012, the Food and Drug Administration ruled that camel milk could be sold for human consumption, opening the gates for dairies to sell the product as a drink.
After this ruling, Hinkle s company set up distribution channels and began collaborating with farmers. She estimated that her initial startup costs were around $250,000.
Hinkle said camel milk is so valuable because its shape and the size of its antibodies make it unique. She added, They ve never been found in another plant or animal.
