The Uganda Electoral Commission on Saturday declared Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni as the new president of the country, for the sixth successive elective term.
Mr Museveni, according to EC chairman Simon Byabakama, has garnered 5,851,037 votes representing 58.64 per cent, while his leading challenger Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, polled 3,475,298 votes representing 34.83 per cent.

Summary
Arrests. Last Thursday, the police arrested other members of NUP party presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi during the campaign trail. The 17 remaining members who had escaped were arrested at Kakoli Village in Budaka District, handcuffed and taken to Mbale Central Police Station.
A week ago, police had waylaid and arrested 126 Bobi Wine supporters in the islands of Kalangala District.
