Credit: PA Images Some vulnerable islanders in Alderney will be vaccinated with the coronavirus vaccine today (11 January). The drug had to be approved by the States, before being given to islanders. A special sitting was called this morning (11 January) and jabs are expected to start this afternoon. The first doses of the Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine arrived in the island over the weekend. It was delivered to the Island Medical Centre and unlike the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine, it does not need to be stored at ultra low temperatures, so can be transported to the smaller islands of the Bailiwick. ....

Credit: ITV Channel TV Alderney s new single property tax will see a 3% increase in payments from January, despite a previous promise of no increase. Currently, islanders pay both Tax on Real Property (TRP), set by Guernsey, and Occupiers Rates, set by Alderney. Guernsey s system of TRP is based on a building s size to determine its tax rate. As of January, the Single Property Tax system will allow Alderney s politicians to adjust the rates on businesses and domestic properties themselves. It means Tax on Real Property and Occupiers rates will be combined and billed as a Single Property Tax. ....
