Davenport city council votes yes on MOU for SRO guidance

The memorandum of understanding includes specifics on how SRO s are supposed to engage with students Author: Maggie Wedlake (WQAD) Updated: 10:45 PM CDT April 28, 2021 DAVENPORT, Iowa After many community members shared their opinions on the School Resource Officer program at the Davenport City Council meeting Wednesday night, the council voted in favor of passing the memorandum of understanding between the city and the school district. The vote was nine in favor, and one against, with Alderman Peacock being the only one to vote against the memorandum. The MOU outlines what exactly the role of officers is in the schools. Under the MOU officers will undergo yearly reviews with at least two unofficial check ins throughout the year as well.

He’s leaving the council because he is moving out of his district, which means it’s illegal to serve the ward. Peacock says he will miss his job, but he had to make the personal decision that was best for him.

Alderman Patrick Peacock, Ward 7, on Thursday attempted to clarify comments made just hours before, after announcing his pending departure from the Davenport City Council, criticizing his colleagues and city staff for being tone deaf when it comes to addressing racial inequality and discrimination in the city.
