Many Canadians started using the hashtag #CancelCanadaDay after, according to preliminary reports, the remains of 215 children were detected on the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School. Those in favour of cancelling the annual celebration say that Indigenous communities are in mourning and cancelling is a way to show solidarity and to support reconciliation.
