AKWESASNE The exhibit “Akwesasne at Work, a collaboration between the Akwesasne Cultural Center Museum and NCPR’s North Country at Work project, opens at the Akwesasne Cultural Center Museum on July 6.
Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 3pm, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. funded by the National Archives.
Since early 2019, the two institutions have worked together to collect more than 100 images and 30 stories that explore the current and historical role of work in Akwesasne, from logging to ironworking, basket making to videography.
“Akwesasronen have always been able to adapt to changing times, which is reflected in the new occupations we choose and new techniques we have added to ancient trades,” explained ACCM Museum Manager Iakonikonriiosta. “The drive for quality is handed down through family lines and our inherent generosity ensures knowledge is passed on from generation to generation.
