Announcing the plan on 10 June, New South Wales Treasurer Dominic Perrottet had said his government plans to bring back 250 international students per fortnight from overseas to Sydney, a figure that is likely to rise to 500 by the end of the year.
This plan is awaiting the federal government’s approval, after which it may take another eight weeks before the first batch of international students can actually return to New South Wales.

Overseas students could potentially fly in to return to study in NSW by October, in a bold plan welcomed by the education sector.
The NSW government is proposing to transform student accommodation in Sydney s CBD into quarantine lodgings to restart its international education sector.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, tertiary education was NSW s second largest export, generating more than $14 billion annually.   ....

Mr Morrison on Friday said that that the government is seeking advice from the medical expert panel on preconditions that are needed to be fulfilled in order to reopen Australia’s international borders, to allow vaccinated people to travel overseas and return without having to go into hotel quarantine.
“That will be a major change and to extent to which Australians returning from overseas who have had recognised vaccines also approved here in Australia with appropriate accreditation can return to Australia on that same basis and to enable potentially down the track travel from low-risk countries with similar vaccine arrangements, he said. ....
