Top schools in Nyanza posted impressive results in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.
The results released yesterday by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha put Maranda High, Agoro Sare, Riokindo and St Joseph Rapogi in the limelight over their good performance.
Agoro Sare in Homa Bay County produced the second-best student nationally, Allan Udoma, while Maranda had the eighth and fourteenth in Henry Madaga and Kiprono Howard, respectively.
Maranda, in Siaya, topped Nyanza schools with a mean score of 9.7, which was an improvement from 2019 when it scored 8.9.
The school also had two students living with disability emerge among the best in their category. John Ominde, who is visually impaired, and David Omondi, who is physically challenged, were among the top 15 candidates.

Education CS Professor George Magoha has finally released the much-anticipated Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE 2020) results.
A total of 752,891 students sat for the national examination that was done under the fierce Covid-19 pandemic that has hit hard various sectors in the country.
A total of 893 candidates got A plain in KCSE 2020. Candidates who have scored C+ and above are 143,140. This is the minimum entry grade to a university.
Here is the list of top 10 candidates for this year’s KCSE:
Simiyu Robinson Wanjala – Murang’a High School
Agoro Sare: School That Produced 2nd Best KCSE Candidate

In a country where the top ten slots are seen as a reserve of prestigious national schools such as Alliance, Mangu, and Starehe - 2020 KCSE results were a welcome break from tradition.
The top student came from Muranga High School while the second-best student emerged from Agoro Sare High School - giving many journalists a hard time to pronounce or even locate the upcountry school.
When it comes to national prestige, fame or glory, Agoro Sare High School may not be considered a top tier school but the little-known school beat respected national schools to produce Kenya s second-best student, Wasonga Allan Udoma, who scored 87.173 points.
