November 9 1923 The Accrington magistrates yesterday committed for trial John Whalley, aged 32, iron fitter, charged with causing grievous bodily harm to, with intent to maim, his five-year-old step-daughter, Agnes Rhodes Wildman, by severing both hands with a razor and also with feloniously wounding, with intent to murder, Sarah Ann Horbury, aged 65, with whom he lodged.
