In November 2023, members of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allied militias went house-to-house in Ardamata on the outskirts of El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur. They looted property and rounded men up for execution. A community Facebook page, El Geneina Darndouka, estimated the death count to be as high as 2,000 people. Among the dead was Muhammad Arbab, an 85-year-old Masalit leader, who was killed along with his son and eight grandchildren in an attack on their home.
