soccer players, athletes like best about players, everyone had a shared sense of relief to get out of taliban-controlled territory, especially women. take a look. the afghan women s national possible team is escaping taliban-controlled territory. we spoke with these players earlier and you can sense the relief that they feel leaving afghanistan, but also the disappointment that they had to leave their home behind. they are determined to continue playing basketball, wherever they end up, and represented this country. we have lots of challenges for women afghanistan. not especially basketball, because the people say that women could not play sports and they should not go into sports. a number of american citizens were also on that flight out of afghanistan today. sandra? sandra: thank you. john? john: the state department s inspector general is investigating the biden administration s final moves in

thank you, mr. secretary. a letter by the u.s. afghan women s counsel calling on the biden administration take immediate action at the united nations to protect afghan civilians, particularly women and girls. without objection, so ordered. let s start a series of seven-minute rounds. i m going to hold the time tight so that every member can get their opportunity and i ll start off by making sure i don t exceed my seven minutes. prior to the final flight out, we heard from both american citizens and afghan partners seeking to access the airport, they were either not being allowed to the gate, being sent back home or simply abandoned. while we understand and appreciate the security issues that were at play, it s confounding that such a chaotic process arose to begin with. so when did the administration begin to plan for a worse case

it s just heartbreaking. i feel that we should have kept a supportive presence in the country to help we ve made so many gains over the last 20 years. life and death gains. women s life expectancies had increased greatly. the maternal murderal iterate has gone down. women have gone to school and we ve had 20 years of being educated and they ve been able to work and they ve been able to vote. so it s heartbreaking to watch all of that at risk. i still serve on the u.n. the u.s. afghan women s counsel which was a group put together by presidents bush and karzai to unite the women of america and of afghanistan to help us help each other and we are, this week, issuing a series of letters to the united nations and the international community and the u.s. government basically calling on them to urgently negotiate with the taliban to put in place a humanitarian corridor so that
