It has been over four months since Pitseng Gaoberekwe’s corpse has been lying in a government mortuary in Ghanzi awaiting to be buried in his ancestral land, next to his late father’s grave in Central Kalahari Game Reserve.
Botswana’s taxpayers will foot the bill in the fresh legal battle between the government and some residents of Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR). The matter which was expected to be argued before the court went nowhere-but tax payers will pay P200 000 in legal fees. This was after the government reached an out of court settlement with the Basarwa tribesmen.
The community of Basarwa residing in Boteti East who gave way for the establishment of Orapa Letlhakeng and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM) mining activities are demanding compensation for removal from their ancestral land.
