Ottawa sees lowest one-day increase in new cases since April 1

  OTTAWA Ottawa Public Health is reporting 146 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Saturday, the lowest one-day increase in new cases since April 1. Two new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in Ottawa. Since the first case of COVID-19 in Ottawa on March 11, 2020, there have been 23,086 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, including 488 deaths. The 146 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday is the lowest one-day increase in cases in Ottawa since April 1, when 116 new cases of COVID-19 were reported. The Ontario government implemented the province-wide emergency break on April 3, which included prohibiting indoor and outdoor dining and restricting capacity for in-person shopping. On April 8, Ontario imposed a province-wide stay-at-home order, which included closing all non-essential businesses for in-person shopping.

254 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Friday; weekly incidence rate continues to fall

  OTTAWA Ottawa Public Health is reporting a second consecutive day with more than 200 new cases of COVID-19, following two days with less than 200 cases. The Ottawa Public Health COVID-19 dashboard is showing 254 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Friday, and no new deaths linked to the virus. Since the first case of COVID-19 on March 11, 2020, there have been 22,940 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, including 486 deaths. The 254 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Friday follows 281 new cases on Thursday, 181 new cases on Wednesday and 186 cases on Tuesday. Ottawa Public Health data shows Ottawa s weekly incidence rate dropped to 170 cases per 100,000 on Friday. It was 222 cases per 100,000 last weekend.  The positivity rate also decreased from 11.7 per cent to 10.9 per cent for the period of April 16 to 22. 

Ottawa sees second day of fewer than 200 new COVID-19 cases

  OTTAWA Ottawa Public Health is reporting 181 more people in the city have tested positive for COVID-19 and one more person has died. This brings Ottawa s pandemic total to 22,405 laboratorty-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 484 resident deaths. The number of known active cases of COVID-19 declined on Wednesday, as did the number of COVID-19 patients in local hospitals. The weekly incidence rate of new cases per 100,000 residents has fallen below 200, and the estimated reproduction number, which shows how many secondary cases are caused by a single infected individual over his or her infectious period, remains below 1, suggesting that viral spread is slowing.

COVID-19 hospitalizations in Ottawa reach new pandemic high on Monday

  OTTAWA Ottawa Public Health reported 203 more people in Ottawa have tested positive for COVID-19, but the number of people in hospital with the disease has jumped significantly. Across Ontario, officials reported 4,447 new cases of COVID-19, along with 19 new deaths and 3,153 newly resolved cases. Ontario officials reported 233 new cases in Ottawa. Figures from OPH often differ from those provided by the province because of different data collection times for the respective daily reports. The newly reported cases bring Ottawa s pandemic total to 22,038 laboratory-confirmed cases.  No new deaths were announced on Monday. Ottawa s death toll from COVID-19 stands at 482 residents.  Monday is the fourth straight day of new case counts below 300, suggesting case levels may slowly be declining. Six of the seven days in the week of April 10 to 16 had daily counts above 300, including two instances of a record-high 370 cases.
