The ruling Awami League will hold “peace rallies” in Dhaka and five other metropolitan cities today in an apparent bid to counter the BNP rallies at the divisional headquarters across the country.
BNP's divisional rally began on Alia Madrasa ground in Sylhet city's Chowhatta area today. With Sylhet District Olama Dal's President, Nurul Haque, reciting from the Holy Quran, the rally began around 11:10am.
"Sylhet will turn into a 'city of rally'. During our publicity for the rally, we have received immense response from the public. We believe that the rally will be a success,” BNP’s Sylhet district unit President Abdul Quiyum Choudhury said today.
The motorcade of Tahsina Rusdir Luna, wife of missing BNP leader M Ilias Ali, was reportedly attacked during a campaign ahead of the party’s rally in Sylhet slated for November 19.
