A group of lawyers have called on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to demand the release of detained Niger President Mohamed Bazoum SaharaReporters reported that Bazoum was ousted by military junta in the country last year July and the military government has been ruling the landlocked country. Since then, he has remained in detention with his wife in the presidential palace in Niger’s capital Niamey.
General Yakubu Gowon, a former Head of State and one of the ECOWAS' founding fathers has urged the regional bloc to withdraw the sanctions placed against Mali, Burkina Faso, and the Niger Republic.
