Sulmona,5 luglio- Santuario di Ercole Curino –Sul monte Morrone, luogo sacro già dai tempi precedenti alla nascita di Cristo, esisteva un santuario dedicato ad Ercole. Era il no latinizzato dell’eroe greco Eracle, con l’appellativo di Curino o Quirino, “culto nazionale dei Peligni” e di cui si ammirava la straordinaria forza, avendo superato le0 famose 12 fatiche, ottenendo l’immortalità. Il complesso monumentale si compone di due grandi terrazze addossate al pendio della montagna. L’accesso avveniva mediante scalinate. Sulla terrazza superiore, si trova un piccolo ambiente quadrato, di carattere cultuale, con pavimento a mosaico. In esso furono rinvenute due immagini votive di Ercole, l’una in bronzo, l’altra in marmo, rappresentante l’eroe sdraiato. Il santuario risale al primo secolo a.C. e sembra documentato c
