and we needed to invest in the working families of america to invest in daycare for working families, to make that child tax credit permanent. we ve just got to remind people the substance of what s going on here. this is a once in a generation opportunity to make the extraordinary investments in the american people that we need that we ve been waiting for. so, look, i think joe biden is a master politician and i think in the final analysis he s going to be able to bring everybody together. and the bottom line is that our constituents want us to find that moral center of gravity and move things forward. so, all of us have an obligation to remember just what you were pointing out, which is that democracies in the balance here. we can t fool around with these people. they tried to overthrow the election in 2020. they tried to reinstall donald trump as president. that s what we have to keep our eyes on. and whether we end up with 3.5 trillion or 3.25 trillion or whatever, we re going to b
eyes on. and whether we end up with 3.5 trillion or 3.25 trillion or whatever, we re going to be able to rally around the president s leadership and our speaker s leadership on the. you think there s a chance, just quickly, that pelosi moves the date from the 27th? again, i think all of the relevant actors would have to be in on that. you know, she obviously had spoken to a bunch of members who were looking for that date. at the same time, anything can be done by unanimous consent. but it like that. a lot of o-congress operates on that principle. if you get everybody together, the bottom line is we want both of these pieces of legislation, both halves of the biden program to be enacted here. and i think that s where the vast majority of the democratic caucus is. in fact i haven t spoken to a single member who doesn t want both bills to pass. congressman jamie raskin, thank you very much, member of the january 6th committee. appreciate your inmutt tonight.
reconciliation bill, that $3.25 trillion bill on social spending. is there a fear if that gets stuck in the gears of congress that it will be harder for the president to account? i think the president has a number of tools in his tool box. the reality is we need to put all our tools to work if we re going to meet this moment. yes, the president wants the bipartisan infrastructure deal. there are important measures in the budget reconciliation, but he s not waiting for those tools. he s got executive powers, and we as agency heads, we have statutory authority. we re moving forward to regulate hscs, we re going to put a more stringent regulation on the oil and gas industry coming out soon. we re regulating tailpipes from transformation, and we re not
i think we have to do both. it is not just about infrastructure, it is about the needs of the american people coming out of a major pandemic. it is about daycare, for example. it is about immigration. that will be done through this reconciliation. it is about a host of issues that are critical to the well-being of our nation and we re just still really in the middle of a pandemic with this new delta variant and the recent report we saw from the cdc shows us that we still got to take care of ourselves, that we are still not out of the woods, and that the american people still need help. so we are the party that wants to help the american people and get our economy back running. in order for us to do that we have to have, yes, an infrastructure bill and, yes, $3.25 trillion to help our families across. congressman, thank you so much. i appreciate it. thank you. up next, congress within cori bush joins us from the capitol where she has been sleeping because of the house adjourning w
