Plus, lisa rooney, and Kristy Greenberg on how we got here and david claw from the new political reality for an electorate that has stopped trump before. When all in, starts right now. Pierre i by a grand, jerry for his role in that insurrection. Well, today, in a single page order released a 5 00, the court agreed to consider trumps manifest weak claim, that he is immune from prosecution for the January 6th Insurrection because he was acting in some sense of his official capacity as president. But, the order itself is not the story here, its the timing it all comes back for the timing. Lets remember, the court case the trial of donald trump over h
Asylum, and to what extent would that executive order violate that? and there s the convention against torture, and you cannot send somebody back to a country where they could face torture, and then finally you are looking at a 14th amendment issue, and that is everyone should be afforded equal protection under the law irrespective of race, religion and et cetera. you are seeing a challenge predicated upon those grounds, and i should also say, when we are talking about a stay, we are talking about that the court feels based on the applications on the attorneys, and the stay doesn t mean the matter has been litigated and the judge made a full-blown decision, but as it stands now, everything will be stayed until there s a full-blown discussion and hearing and all of these issues are out, and so for now it
Really key about the 4th amendment issue is the federal government says in it s decisions that wholesale flight is suspicion enough to justify a pursuit. at the state level the court decisions maybe different. for example, in new jersey it s not by itself reasonable suspicion to undertake a foot pursuit. where can we reconcile that and what were the factors that lead to this to begin with and why were some of the policies violated and what happened and when did these injuries occur. listen i truly do not want to be in a position of feeling like there is irreconcilable differences between the police and community, it says the images seen on television look and seem much like a link mob in that they re calling for immediate imprisonment of the
But there s this extreme element right now. i call it the survivalist wing of the nra that makes a lot of money from the gun manufacturers. these assault weapons. i m wondering, you re getting involved. do you think you re going to be able to counter some of the more extremist elements of the nra with what you re doing and trying to get your message out and supporting candidates that support the second amendment but also support reasonable regulation of some of these more extreme assault firearms? yeah, absolutely, joe. i mean, when you look at the nra, the membership itself, i mean, 74% of the nra members agree with gabby and i. that there should be a universal background check before buying a gun. those 74% of the members of the nra do not agree with wayne lapierre and the leadership. so, i mean, we ve got those folks on our side on this part of the issue. now, it gets a little bit more complicated with assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
Or the possible bench that s the bench? i mean, these are the names that are being talked about. what s interesting is that all of them are all high profile right now and open-minded on this issue, if not actively for it. i think the fund-raising community is excited about it and people in the conservative movement are more open on it than they were in the past. now, this can go sideways very quickly. and you re seeing the beginnings of people trying to make it go sideways over the last couple days. dan, stay with us, if you can. still ahead, cnbc s tyler mathisen will help us break down yesterday s surprising report on economic growth and what pushed down gdp for the first time in years. also, an exclusive first look at the new cover of time magazine which investigates america s go-to technology in modern warfare. you re watching morning joe brewed by starbucks. [ man ] i ve been out there most of my life.
