Chef Paul Smith will be returning to Chicago again in 2024, as a finalist in the prestigious James Beard culinary competition. Smith, co-owner of the popular 1010 Bridge restaurant in the South Hills neighborhood of Charleston, West Virginia, was named a finalist in the Best Chef: Southeast category on April 3, 2024.

West Virginia has two semifinalists in the 2024 James Beard Best Chef competition, southeast division. Paul Smith of Charleston was a finalist last year and is a semifinalist again this year. Smith is the co-owner and executive chef of 1010 Bridge, The Pitch and Ellen’s Ice Cream, and a chef partner at Barkadas and The Humble Tomato in Lewisburg. Scott MacGregor of Appalachia Kitchen in Snowshoe, Pocahontas County, is also a semifinalist this year.
