[email protected] WARREN A driver of a Mercedes SUV, accused of driving erratically at slow speeds on Niles Road SE late Thursday, was arrested on a weapons and counterfeiting charges after police said a handgun was found. The gun was below the passenger seat of his SUV and fake money was found in his pocket shortly before midnight, a police report states. Matthew Whittenberger, 22, of 1179 Summit St. NW, Warren, was arraigned Friday in Warren Municipal Court on charges of counterfeiting and carrying a concealed weapon, according to jail records. Whittenberg, who pleaded not guilty before Municipal Judge Terry Ivanchak, was released on a personal recognizance bond. He will have a preliminary hearing before Ivanchak at 10:15 a.m. Feb. 25. Ronald Yarwood was appointed as Whittenberg’s attorney. ....

HOWLAND The Ohio Department of Transportation is seeking public input on a planned intersection improvement project at state Route 46 and Warren-Sharon Road, which is known as Howland Corners. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, public meetings that would usually be held in person for ODOT officials to receive public input from residents are being done online through a virtual open house where a pre-recorded presentation and all materials regarding the project are available at http://www.publicinput.com/TRU109520. “This is a big project, not only for Howland Township, but Trumbull County as well. It will make traveling at the intersection safer going north, south, east and west,” said Howland Township Administrator Darlene St. George. ....
[email protected] HOWLAND The Howland Township Park Board is preparing for the second phase of the new Tiger Town and other park improvements this year. Board Vice Chairman Shawn Pompelia said the second phase, expected to cost around $80,000, will be done in the spring. It will include additional play equipment and rubberized surface below the play area. Board Chairwoman Jessica Gault said the board met Wednesday and approved DWA Recreation for playground equipment and curbing around the play area for the second phase. He said the equipment needs to be ordered now for the spring. The new Tiger Town is located closer to the entrance of the park as compared to the previous location in the northwest corner of the park, which had flooding issues. ....
