US issues 'Do Not Travel' advisory to PH; business leaders say warning temporary

WHILE the “Do Not Travel” advisory issued by the US to the Philippines will not badly hit the country as border controls remain effective, such move may affect the country’s image in its Covid-19 response.
Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Steven Yu said the advisory will have negative implications on the country in the sense that the Philippines will be viewed as a Covid-19 hotspot.
The US Department of State issued on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, a “Do Not Travel” Order to the Philippines.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a Level 4 Travel Health Notice for the Philippines due to Covid-19, indicating a very high level of Covid-19 in the country. There are restrictions in place affecting US citizen entry into the Philippines. ....

THE Department of Health (DOH) 7 still doesn’t have enough vaccines for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) to start inoculating senior citizens, the next sector on the government’s priority list. Its available stock is only for medical frontliners.
The DOH 7 issued the clarification after senior citizens showed up at a mass inoculation in one of Cebu City’s commercial malls on Thursday, April 15, 2021, expecting to be vaccinated only to be refused.
Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, DOH 7 spokesperson, said that as of Thursday, they only had 178,560 doses of Sinovac available, 44,400 of which arrived in Cebu on Wednesday, April 14. ....

Central Visayas 'running out' of supply of Covid-19 vaccines

OF THE 134,160 doses of coronavirus disease 2019 ( Covid-19) vaccines that the Department of Health (DOH) 7 has received, all except for 400 buffer doses of Sinovac have been distributed to various vaccination sites in the region.
In a text message to SunStar Cebu on Saturday, April 10, 2021, DOH 7 spokesperson Dr. Mary Jean Loreche said Central Visayas has received 104,160 doses of Sinovac and 30,000 doses of
AstraZeneca (AZ) as of Friday, April 9, 2021.The total number of individuals/health care workers who have been inoculated with AZ is 29,897.
A total of 9,874 health care workers have received their second dose of Sinovac, while 42,185 have received the first dose. ....

BUSINESS confidence in the country is more upbeat for the first half of 2021 and the next 12 months, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said.
In its report, the central bank said the sentiment of business owners improved for the second consecutive quarter.
“The overall confidence index (CI) for the first and second quarters posted increases from previous quarter survey results, indicating greater optimism for many of the respondents,” the BSP said. ....
