Growing support for death row inmate Richard Glossip tonight.More than 30 state lawmakers of both parties signed off on a letter to Gov. Kevin Stitt and the state Pardon and Parole Board asking for another review of his case. Glossip was convicted of paying another man to kill his boss. Glossip’s execution was put on hold several years ago when the state almost used the wrong drug. Death penalty opponents have been fighting for years to get him off death row. The Oklahoma Coalition Against the Death Penalty said there needs to be another investigation into Glossip’s case, given new evidence that has been presented.“He had his last execution scheduled in September of 2015. I was with several other coalition members outside the governor s mansion protesting the execution,” said Don Heath, with the Oklahoma Coalition Against the Death Penalty. The Criminal Justice Advisory Council Board voted on ways to improve conditions at the Oklahoma County Detention Center. Officials said the jail was built as a maximum-security building but most of the inmates don t qualify for needing that. They voted to come up with a plan to give the jail trust in November. They are looking into three options, either renovate the inside, add an annex building or just completely demolish the jail and start over. The jail is really not equipped to handle somebody who has substance abuse problems even medical problems, said Tim Tardibone, the board’s executive director. Tardibone said the jail has needed a remodel for years now. Remember the jail was built for 1,200 maximum security cells, and that s not the majority of the people in the jail right now, Tardibone said.
